Research led by the New Mexico Farmers’ Marketing Association
Bryan Crawford-Garrett / Danielle Duran / Kirsten Hansen
We would first like to say thank you to the Fair Food Network for providing the funding for this research project as well as their support and thought partnership throughout the process. Secondly, we express our sincere gratitude to those who participated in the research. Their generous giving of time and willingness to share their perspectives and experiences are deeply appreciated. This report attempts to highlight their voices and views. We would also like to thank all of those who make the FreshRx program possible, including participants, health clinics, food producers and other supply chain partners, and funders. One of the farmers interviewed for this project noted, “I have the feeling that everybody’s really putting in the work necessary to make it happen, and it wouldn’t happen without everybody doing their part, either.” We’re in this together.
Photographs taken by FreshRx participants were an important part of this research and help highlight participant experiences. The photos on the project homepage, this preface, as well as those included in Section 3, Section 4, and Appendices A and B were all taken by participants in this study. Photos included in other parts of the report were taken prior to this research project as part of ongoing NMFMA programming. These other photos help provide additional context to the reader as they present various aspects of the local food supply chain in New Mexico - from production to distribution.
Bryan Crawford-Garrett is the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) Lead at the NMFMA. Danielle Duran is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at Northeastern University. Kirsten Hansen is Director of Community Health and Engagement at the NMFMA.
